We present Hα spectropolarimetry of a large sample of pre-main sequence (PMS) stars of low and intermediate mass, and argue that the technique is a powerful tool in studying the circumstellar geometry around these objects. For the intermediate mass (2 – 15 M⊙) Herbig Ae/Be stars we find that 16 out of 23 show aline effect, which immediately implies that flattening is common among these objects. Furthermore, we find a significant difference in Hα spectropolarimetry behaviour between the Herbig…

Probing the circumstellar structure of Herbig Ae/Be stars
We present Hspectropolarimetry observations of a sample of 23 Herbig Ae/Be stars. A change in the linear polarisation across His detected in a large fraction of the objects, which indicates that the
Hα spectropolarimetry of B[e] and Herbig Be stars
We present the results of medium resolution (v 60 km s 1 ) spectropolarimetric observations across Hof a sample of B(e) and Herbig Be objects. A change in linear polarization across His detected in
Spatially Resolved Circumstellar Structure of Herbig Ae/Be Stars in the Near-Infrared
We have conducted the first systematic study of Herbig Ae/Be stars using the technique of long baseline stellar interferometry in the near-infrared, with the objective of characterizing the
A HIGH-RESOLUTION STUDY OF GAS AND DUST AROUND YOUNG INTERMEDIATE-MASS STARS: EVIDENCE FOR CIRCUMSTELLAR DISKS IN HERBIG Ae SYSTEMS
As part of a long-term program of observations to search for and characterize disks of gas and dust around intermediate-mass counterparts to solar-mass T Tauri stars, we have probed the environments
Imaging the Small-Scale Circumstellar Gas Around T~Tauri Stars
We have detected circumstellar molecular gas around a small sample of T Tauri stars through aperture synthesis imaging of CO(2-1) emission at ~2-3'' resolution. RY Tauri, DL Tauri, DO Tauri, and AS
Synthetic line profiles of rotationally distorted hot-star winds
ABSTRA C T A new Monte Carlo stellar wind radiative-transfer code is presented. The code employs a three-dimensional opacity grid, and fully treats polarization and multiple scattering. Either Mie or
