  • We propose a redefinition of the quantities called certainty factors used by MYCIN to manage uncertainty. This definition is based on the desiderata of certainty factors given in the original work. It is emphasized that this definition reflects the not ion that certainty factors represent changes in belief about hypotheses given evidence as opposed to absolute beliefs.
