Polymorphonuclear neutrophils (PMNs) have the ability to liberate large amounts of reactive oxygen species like hydrogen peroxide. This free radicals release may have beneficial effect in chemotherapy but may also lead to cytotoxicity in case of prolongated inflammatory reaction.
