Introduction Primary melanoma of the spinal cord is a rare entity with fewer than 60 cases reported in the literature since the first report in 1906. The diagnosis requires exclusion of a primary cutaneous or ocular lesion, as in rare instances melanoma may metastasize to the spinal cord. Prognosis is generally better, with a slower rate of progression, than for cutaneous melanoma with CNS metastases.
