We carried out a dietary analysis of Persian Leopards, Panthera pardus saxicolor, in a temperate region in north-eastern Iran, where the largest population nucleus exists across the subspecies range. We investigated 113 faecal samples collected between February 2009 and March 2010 in Golestan National Park. Faecal analysis revealed that leopards predominantly preyed upon wild ungulates, with the Wild Boar, Sus scrofa, being the most important prey species in terms of frequency and biomass…

Distribution and human‐caused mortality of Persian leopards Panthera pardus saxicolor in Iran, based on unpublished data and Farsi gray literature
- Environmental ScienceEcology and evolution
- 2019
The distribution and human‐caused mortality of leopards in Iran are determined by reviewing unpublished data and Farsi gray literature between 1 January 2010 and 30 December 2018, and the most recent distribution map of the leopard is created.
Effects of shepherds and dogs on livestock depredation by leopards (Panthera pardus) in north-eastern Iran
- Geography, MedicinePeerJ
- 2017
Study of individual leopard attacks on sheep and goats in 34 villages near Golestan National Park, Iran indicates that local husbandry practices are ineffectual and the mere presence of shepherds and guarding dogs is not enough to secure protection, and suggests that dogs are raised to create a strong social bond with livestock.
Estimating the density of a small population of leopards (Panthera pardus) in central Iran using multi-session photographic‐sampling data
- Environmental ScienceMammalian Biology
- 2021
The estimates from this density estimation exercise represent some of the lowest densities across the leopard global range and strengthen the notion that arid habitats support low densities of the species.

Contrasting responses of large carnivores to land use management across an Asian montane landscape in Iran

Land-use change has led to substantial range contractions for many species. Such contractions are particularly acute for wide-ranging large carnivores in Asia’s high altitude areas, which are marked…

prey selection by tiger, leopard and dhole in tropical forests

It is suggested that if there is choice, large carnivores selectively kill larger prey, and non-selective predation patterns reported from other tropical forests may be the result of scarcity of large prey.
