BACKGROUND Fractalkine is a newly identified T-cell and monocyte/macrophage (Mphi) chemokine with a transmembrane domain and is a cell-surface protein on activated endothelium. It can mediate adhesion of cells expressing the fractalkine receptor CX3CR1.
