OBJECTIVE To evaluate the association of atrial septal abnormalities--patent foramen ovale (PFO), atrial septal aneurysm (ASA), or the combination of both (PFO+ASA)--with cryptogenic stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA) in older patients.
