The prevalence of influenza C virus among pigs in Hyogo Prefecture, Japan, was investigated by serological techniques. Out of 240 sera tested, 45 (19%) showed haemagglutination inhibition (HI) to influenza C virus. Pig sera with high HI titres also scored high in neutralization tests and ELISAs. When fractionated by sucrose density gradient ultracentrifugation, the HI/ELISA reactivities corresponded to antibodies of the IgM and IgG classes. Radioimmunoprecipitation tests revealed that some, but…
Isolation of a Novel Swine Influenza Virus from Oklahoma in 2011 Which Is Distantly Related to Human Influenza C Viruses
TLDR
Results suggest that C/OK virus represents a new subtype of influenza C viruses that currently circulates in pigs that has not been recognized previously and raises the possibility of reassortment and antigenic shift as mechanisms of influenzaC virus evolution.
Serological studies of influenza viruses in pigs in Great Britain 1991-2.
TLDR
Results provide further evidence that the pig can be infected by a number of influenza viruses, some of which may have significance in the epidemiology of human influenza.

1. It has been possible to demonstrate, in Berkefeld filtrates of infectious material from experimental cases of swine influenza, a virus which when administered intranasally to susceptible swine
Influenza D in Italy: towards a better understanding of an emerging viral infection in swine
TLDR
The results indicate an increasing epidemiological relevance of the pathogen and the need for in-depth investigations towards understanding its pathogenesis, epidemiology and possible zoonotic potential of this emerging virus.
Characterization of a Novel Influenza Virus in Cattle and Swine: Proposal for a New Genus in the Orthomyxoviridae Family
TLDR
Deep RNA sequencing, phylogenetic analysis, and in vitro reassortment experiments demonstrate that animal ICV-like viruses are genetically distinct from human ICV and suggest that bovine influenza virus warrants classification as a new genus of influenza virus.
Hemagglutinin-esterase-fusion (HEF) protein of influenza C virus
TLDR
The main focus is on the structure of the HEF protein as well as on its co- and post-translational modification, such as N-glycosylation, disulfide bond formation, S-acylation and proteolytic cleavage into HEF1 and HEF2 subunits.
Genetic diversity and evolution of the influenza C virus
TLDR
The immune system of mammals often fails to recognize new antigenic variants of influenza C virus, resulting in outbreaks of diseases, although the structure of antigens in influenza Cirus in general is much more stable than those of influenza viruses A and B.
Characterization of a Novel Influenza Virus in Cattle and Swine: Proposal for a New Genus in the Orthomyxoviridae Family
TLDR
Deep RNA sequencing, phylogenetic analysis, and in vitro reassortment experiments demonstrate that animal ICV-like viruses are genetically distinct from human ICV, suggesting that bovine influenza virus warrants classification as a new genus of influenza virus.
A Systematic Review Analyzing the Prevalence and Circulation of Influenza Viruses in Swine Population Worldwide
TLDR
The current systematic review summarizes the original research articles and case reports of all the four types of influenza viruses reported in swine populations worldwide and finds the findings are alarming hence active surveillance should be in place to prevent future influenza pandemics.

Distribution of the Antibody to Influenza C Virus in Dogs and Pigs in Yamagata Prefecture, Japan
TLDR
It appears, therefore, that at least in the Yamagata area, pigs do not play significant roles in the spread of influenza C virus in humans.
Age Distribution of the Antibody to Type C Influenza Virus
TLDR
The age distribution of antibody to the virus in the residents of the same community in Yamagata Prefecture, Japan is determined in two surveys with a three-year interval to suggest that the virus is widespread and that the majority of children are infected with the virus by the age of 7 years.
Isolation of influenza C virus from pigs and experimental infection of pigs with influenza C virus.
TLDR
Results indicate that, like influenza A, influenza C virus can cause natural infection in pigs, the first report of such a finding, to be reported on.

TLDR
The increasing seropositivity rates with age suggest that circulation and reinfection with influenza C commonly occurs.
Influenza Virus C Infection in England
TLDR
It seems probable that, in the United States, influenza virus C infection occurs widely in young children and may be accompanied by minor respiratory illness, and the same may be true in Britain.
Influenza B and Influenza C Viruses
TLDR
Influenza B and C viruses are similar in morphology and composition, and in their replication processes, to influenza A viruses, but no antigenic cross reactivity among these viruses has been detected, and they are therefore classified as completely unrelated antigenic types.
