The abundance of parasites of public health significance in pen-reared salmon and wild-caught salmon was compared. Two hundred eighty-seven salmon from Puget Sound, Washington, were examined for third-stage larvae of Anisakis simplex. Of these fish, 237 Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar), coho salmon (Oncorhynchus kisutch) and chinook salmon (O. tshawytscha) were reared in commercial salmon pens and 50 sockeye salmon (O. nerka) were caught during their spawning migration. All wild-caught salmon were…

Possibility of anisakid larvae infection in farmed salmon.
It is concluded that the possibility of anisakid infection is very low in farmed salmonids and the stomach and intestines of farmed fish were examined carefully for the existence of possible carrier organisms such as crustaceans, fish or squid.
Increasing intensities of Anisakis simplex (Rudolphi, 1809 det. Krabbe, 1878) larvae with weight and sea age in returning adult Atlantic salmon, Salmo salar L., of coastal waters of Norway.
Consumption of unfrozen, raw or semi-raw musculature represents a risk for humans developing anisakiasis and the intensity of A. simplex larvae was positively correlated with increasing weight and sea age of the host.
Absence of anisakis nematodes in smoked farmed Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) products on sale in European countries
This first survey on the possible presence of anisakid nematodes in processed smoked salmon confirms that this risk in farmed Atlantic salmon products has to be considered negligible.

Occurrence and identification of Anisakis spp. (Nematoda: Anisakidae) isolated from chum salmon (Oncorhynchus keta) in Korea
The high occurrence of anisakid worms in chum salmon may pose considerable food safety problems if they were consumed as raw or undercooked, although their commercial value is relatively lower than other salmonid species.
Anisakid Larvae in Atlantic Salmon (Salmo salar L.) Grilse and Post-Smolts: Molecular Identification and Histopathology
The intestinal wall had a hypercellular appearance with extensive cellular infiltration comprising eosinophilic granular cells, macrophages, lymphocytes, and fibrocytes, and the earliest in the marine migration of Atlantic salmon that A. simplex sensu stricto infection has been recorded.

The effect of freezing on encysted Anisakis larvae.
Immature heterocheilid nematodes, usually Contracaecum or Anisakis, are commonly found encysted in commercial fish brought to the Seattle docks and it seems likely that the common final host is a piscivorous fish.
Rapid counting of nematoda in salmon by peptic digestion
The nematode parcisite Anisakis sp. canbe recovered, ! relatively unaltered, from chum salmon musculature by i high temperature (52° ± 2" C.) peptic digestion of the * flesh. The procedure, which is
