Whole blood and serum from 93 cats (44 pets and 49 shelter/stray cats) from Denmark were tested for the presence of feline Bartonella species by culture and for the presence of Bartonella antibodies by serology. Bartonella henselae was isolated from 21 (22.6%) cats. Bacteremia prevalence was not statistically different between shelter/stray cats (13/49, 26.5%) and pet cats (8/44, 18.2%), but varied widely by geographical origin of the cats, even after stratification for cat origin or age (p < 0…

Prevalence of Bartonella infection in cats and dogs in a metropolitan area, Thailand
TLDR
Results indicated that B. henselae, especially type I, was prevalent in stray cats that constituted a large Bartonella reservoir in Bangkok, and was isolated for the first time in Asia from one of 350 dogs.
Investigation of Bartonella henselae in Cats in Ankara, Turkey
TLDR
B. henselae IgG antibodies in cats was detected as 8.2% and 18.6% respectively, which is the first report on B. henselea and B. clarridgeiae prevalence and seroprevalence in cats in Turkey.
Coexistence of Bartonella henselae and B. clarridgeiae in Populations of Cats and Their Fleas in Guatemala
TLDR
Two Bartonella species were identified in cats and cat fleas by molecular analysis, with B. henselae being more common than B. clarridgeiae in the cats, and no evident association was observed between the presence of Bart onella species in Cats and in their fleas.
Prevalence of Bartonella henselae and Bartonella clarridgeiae in cats in the south of Brazil: a molecular study.
TLDR
To the best of the authors' knowledge, this is the first molecular study demonstrating the presence of Bartonella spp in cats from the Southern Region of Brazil, and it is shown that these bacteria are present in cats lodged in municipal animal shelters.
Detection of Bartonella henselae in domestic cats' saliva
TLDR
The data suggest that pet cats are more likely than stray cats to infect human with B. henselae after a bite and also stray cats can play a role as a reservoir for this bacteria.
First report on seroepidemiological and clinical investigation of cat infection with Bartonella henselae in the area of Novi Sad, Serbia
TLDR
For the first time in Serbia, in the area of Novi Sad municipality the infection caused by Bartonella henselae in the population of cats was detected and the most common clinical manifestations in seropositive cats were gingivitis and lymphoadenopathy.
Prevalence of Bartonella henselae in pet and stray cats from the aspect of public health: a research sample in the concept of one medicine - one health.
TLDR
It was observed that CSD is an important risk for public health in Konya region and information, treatment and prevention studies must be carried out within the One Health concept.

Prevalence of Bartonella species in domestic cats in The Netherlands
TLDR
To determine the prevalence of Bartonella bacteremia and antibodies in Dutch cats, blood samples from 113 cats from shelters, 50 pet cats, and 25 specific-pathogen-free (SPF) cats were analyzed.
Detection and identification of two Bartonella henselae variants in domestic cats in Germany
To determine the prevalence of bacteremia caused by Bartonella henselae in domestic cats in the region of Freiburg, Germany, we investigated culture of blood from 100 cats from 89 different
Seroprevalence of Bartonella henselae in cats in Germany.
TLDR
The results of this study suggest that B. henselae, and possibly a B. quintana-related pathogen, but not A. felis, are common in cats in Germany, and that there are differences in the geographic distribution of bartonella infections in cats.
Seroprevalence of Bartonella henselae infection and correlation with disease status in cats in Switzerland
TLDR
There was an increased prevalence of B. henselae in cats positive for FCoV or FeSFV and no statistically significant increased prevalence in cats infected with FeLV or FIV and there was no correlation between a positive titer and sex or breed.
Bartonella henselae and Bartonella clarridgeiae infection in domestic cats from The Philippines.
TLDR
The presence of antibodies to Bartonella was strongly associated with flea infestation, and domestic cats represent a large reservoir of Bartonesella infection in the Philippines.
Bartonella henselae prevalence in domestic cats in California: risk factors and association between bacteremia and antibody titers
TLDR
Seronegative cats may be more appropriate pets for immunocompromised individuals who are at increased risk for developing severe B. henselae disease.
Prevalence of Bartonella henselae and Bartonella clarridgeiae in stray cats
TLDR
The study points out the major role of stray cats as a reservoir of Bartonella spp.
Experimental transmission of Bartonella henselae by the cat flea
TLDR
Data demonstrate that the cat flea readily transmits B. henselae to cats, and control of feline infestation with this arthropod vector may provide an important strategy for the prevention of infection of both humans and cats.
