Background: Recent attention has begun to be focused on the effects of disaster recovery work on nonrescue workers. The goal of this study was to assess the prevalence and predictors of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and related symptoms in a population of utility workers deployed to the World Trade Center (WTC) site in the aftermath of 9/11. Methods: Utility workers deployed to the WTC site were screened at their place of employment between 10 and 34 months following the WTC attacks…
The longitudinal course of PTSD among disaster workers deployed to the World Trade Center following the attacks of September 11th.
TLDR
Although PTSD rates decreased significantly over time, many workers remained symptomatic, with others showing delayed-onset PTSD, the implications for both screening and treatment of disaster workers are discussed.
Posttraumatic stress disorder following the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks: a review of the literature among highly exposed populations.
TLDR
The large body of research conducted after the 9/11 attacks in the past decade suggests that the burden of PTSD among persons with high exposure to9/11 was substantial.
Trajectories of PTSD risk and resilience in World Trade Center responders: an 8-year prospective cohort study
TLDR
Trajectories of PTSD symptoms in WTC responders are heterogeneous and associated uniquely with pre- peri- and post-trauma risk and protective factors, particularly those with prior psychiatric history, high levels of trauma exposure and work-related medical morbidities.
Dimensional structure and course of post-traumatic stress symptomatology in World Trade Center responders
TLDR
Results of this study suggest that disaster-related PTSD symptomatology in WTC responders is best represented by five symptom dimensions, which underscore the importance of assessment, monitoring and early intervention of hyperarousal symptoms in WTC and other disaster responders.
Factors associated with posttraumatic stress disorder and depression in war-survivors displaced in Croatia
TLDR
The findings suggest that it would be effective to use a trauma-focused approach in rehabilitation of war survivors, and that post-trauma adaptation in different life spheres had an impact, but its effect was not robust and consistent across disorders.
Implementation of Evidence-Based Assessment, Treatment, and Research Programs Following the World Trade Center Disaster on September 11, 2001
This chapter details the development of an evidence-based clinical assessment and treatment program following the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center (WTC) in New York City. This
Loss of social resources predicts incident posttraumatic stress disorder during ongoing political violence within the Palestinian Authority
TLDR
A high incidence of PTSD was documented during a 6-month follow-up period among Palestinian residents of Gaza, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem and adjusted logistic regression models demonstrated that talking to friends and family about political circumstances and loss of social resources were predictive of incident cases of PTSD.

Differences in PTSD prevalence and associated risk factors among World Trade Center disaster rescue and recovery workers.
TLDR
Workers and volunteers in occupations least likely to have had prior disaster training or experience were at greatest risk of PTSD, and disaster preparedness training and shift rotations to enable shorter duration of service at the site may reduce PTSD among workers and Volunteers in future disasters.
Longitudinal Assessment of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder and Depression after Exposure to Traumatic Death
TLDR
Exposure to traumatic death increases intrusive and avoidant symptoms, hostility, somatization, and the risk of PTSD and that symptoms can persist for months.

Posttraumatic Stress Disorder and Other Psychological Sequelae Among World Trade Center Clean Up and Recovery Workers
TLDR
PTSD was positively associated with traumatic on‐site experiences and with respiratory problems in exposed workers and in a comparison group of unexposed workers.
Longitudinal course and predictors of continuing distress following critical incident exposure in emergency services personnel.
TLDR
The results suggest that rescue workers, particularly those with more catastrophic exposure and those prone to dissociate at the time of the critical incident, are at risk for chronic symptomatic distress.
Posttraumatic stress disorder in the National Comorbidity Survey.
TLDR
Progress in estimating age-at-onset distributions, cohort effects, and the conditional probabilities of PTSD from different types of trauma will require future epidemiologic studies to assess PTSD for all lifetime traumas rather than for only a small number of retrospectively reported "most serious" traumAs.

This report summarizes data analyzed from a subset of 1,138 of the 11,768 participants evaluated at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine during July 16--December 31, 2002, and found that approximately half of participants met threshold criteria for a clinical mental health evaluation.
