Prepulse inhibition is modulated by dopaminergic drugs and is disrupted in attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, as well as mental illnesses such as schizophrenia. Spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) have been proposed as an animal model of attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder and show marked alterations of dopaminergic regulation of behaviour.
