Abstract Hydrocalumite (CaAl-LDH) was prepared by the co-precipitation method with different Ca 2+ /Al 3+ molar ratios. Hydrocalumite at the molar ratio of 4:1 Ca 2+ /Al 3+ (4HC) showed to be efficient in the removal of Cu 2+ , Ni 2+ or Zn 2+ from the aqueous solution. The products formed between 4HC and the Cu 2+ , Ni 2+ or Zn 2+ cations were characterized by atomic absorption, SEM, XRD and IR.
