OBJECTIVE Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), a potent angiogenic peptide, and matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP-9), a proteolytic enzyme, are found to be abundantly expressed in several types of cancer and correlate with tumour progression.
