Objectives  This enquiry aimed to provide a snap‐shot of availability, price and quality of malaria rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs) in private health facilities at selected sites in six malaria‐endemic countries in Africa, South East Asia and South America.
Availability and price of malaria rapid diagnostic tests in the public and private health sectors in 2011: results from 10 nationally representative cross‐sectional retail surveys
TLDR
To describe the state of the public and private malaria diagnostics market shortly after WHO updated its guidelines for testing all suspected malaria cases prior to treatment, World Health Organization (WHO) experts suggest that the market is in a state of uncertainty.
The Affordable Medicines Facility-malaria in Ghana: Factors Accounting for Antimalarial Availability and Pricing Outcomes
TLDR
This dissertation aims to provide a history of health services research, policy and administration in the United States and its applications in the context of health care policy-makers and policymakers since the 1970s.
Scale-up of Malaria Rapid Diagnostic Tests and Artemisinin-Based Combination Therapy: Challenges and Perspectives in Sub-Saharan Africa
Guido Bastiaens and colleagues describe barriers to achieving scale-up and appropriate use of rapid diagnostic tests and artemisinin-based combination therapy for malaria in sub-Saharan Africa.
Status of the use and compliance with malaria rapid diagnostic tests in formal private health facilities in Nigeria
TLDR
In formal private health facilities in Nigeria there is a high rate of malaria testing for febrile patients, high level of compliance with test results but relatively low level of RDT utilization, which calls for improved engagement of the formalprivate health sector with a view to achieving universal coverage targets on malaria testing.
Scaling-up malaria treatment: a review of the performance of different providers
TLDR
The evidence shows that there is no short-cut to investing in training and supervision of providers, or in treating malaria within a public health context rather than as a separate disease.
The impact of providing rapid diagnostic malaria tests on fever management in the private retail sector in Ghana: a cluster randomized trial
TLDR
In this trial, providing rapid diagnostic tests for malaria in the private drug retail sector significantly reduced dispensing of antimalarials to patients without malaria, did not reduce prescribing of antimicrobials to true malaria cases, and appeared safe.
Improving Access to Malaria Rapid Diagnostic Test in Niger State, Nigeria: An Assessment of Implementation up to 2013
TLDR
It is concluded that although implementation of RDTs led to a reduction in the use of ACTs at HFs, more substantial reduction could be achieved if the state government directed more resources towards the acquisition of R DTs as well as raising the level of awareness of potential users.
Performance and clinical usefulness of the Optimal-IT ® test in the treatment of confirmed malaria cases in rural areas in Côte d'Ivoire
TLDR
The Optimal-IT ® test, which is already used in the field, showed good performances to effectively detect patients with and without malaria, and is therefore adapted to the malaria treatment strategy limited to confirmed cases.
Comparative Evaluation of Bivalent Malaria Rapid Diagnostic Tests versus Traditional Methods in Field with Special Reference to Heat Stability Testing in Central India
TLDR
Although R DTs are useful as diagnostic tool for P.falciparum and P.vivax even at high temperature, the quality of RDTs should be regulated and monitored more closely.
Malaria burden and anti-malarial drug efficacy in Owando, northern Congo
TLDR
Both artemisinin-based combinations were highly efficacious in patients under 12 years old with acute uncomplicated malaria, and represent partially the burden of malaria in 0–11  years old febrile children examined in public health centres of Owando city.

TLDR
The results emphasize the need for good logistical planning during the introduction of point-of-care tests in tropical countries and the importance of considering the stability of diagnostic tests during procurement.
Transporting storing and handling malaria rapid diagnostic tests in health clinics.
TLDR
The publication describes the basic principles for management and storage of RDT stock and it outlines practical solutions for protecting RDTs against high temperatures during storage and transport.
The feasibility of introducing rapid diagnostic tests for malaria in drug shops in Uganda
TLDR
Drug shops were perceived by the community as important in treating malaria and there was awareness among most drug sellers and the community that not all febrile illnesses were malaria, so introducing RDTs for malaria diagnosis in drug shops was attractive to most respondents.
Improving community health worker use of malaria rapid diagnostic tests in Zambia: package instructions, job aid and job aid-plus-training
TLDR
Manufacturer's instructions like those provided with the RDTs used in this study are insufficient to ensure safe and accurate use by CHWs, however, well-designed instructions plus training can ensure high performance.

TLDR
In recent years Sri Lanka, as a whole, has experienced very little malaria, but since low levels of malaria do not guarantee that epidemics will not occur, attempts to educate private drug vendors as a part of an organised control programmes are of major importance.
