A hemolysin was extracted from fungous mats ofRhizopus nigricans cultured for two weeks in modified Sabouraud broth. Preliminary characterization indicated that the active substance is water soluble, stable after heating to 100°C, not destroyed by proteolytic enzymes, not dialyzable, and not precipitable with ethanol.
