During the culture of tobacco BY 2 cells derived from Nicotiana tabacum L. cv. Bright Yellow 2, morphological changes of plastid (pt) nucleoids and their replication were examined by fluorescence microscopy after staining with 4′6-diamidino-2-phenylindole. Upon transfer to fresh medium, the fluorescence intensity originating from pt nucleoids increased markedly.
