Sterilizing drugs kill Mycobacterium tuberculosis that persists during chemotherapy. Predictive models should mimic the conditions causing persistence in the lesions of cavitary disease, and should grade current anti-tuberculosis drugs according to their sterilizing activity determined in clinical trials.
