A finite element numerical model was implemented to simulate the freezing process of an aqueous salt solution in a cylindrical container. Local cooling rates within the container were computed for several defined cooling protocols applied at the boundary. Characteristic cell survival signatures were used to predict the associated local survival rates throughout the system.
