OBJECTIVES:Esophageal reflux is common in the Western world and can lead to a number of diseases, such as esophagitis, Barrett's esophagus, and adenocarcinoma. Barrett's predisposes to adenocarcinoma and endoscopic surveillance may lead to earlier detection of adenocarcinoma.
