This chapter addresses the relation and difference between prediction, forecasting, and chance discovery. Prediction and forecasting have a long history. So far, many studies have been devoted to prediction and forecasting. However, in complex real-world systems, contrary to scientific laws, it is sometimes very difficult to predict the future.
