Membrane proteins are generally classified into the following eight types: (1) type I transmembrane, (2) type II, (3) type III, (4) type IV, (5) multipass transmembrane, (6) lipid-chain-anchored membrane, (7) GPI-anchored membrane, and (8) peripheral membrane (K.C.
