Knowledge of a species’ distribution and habitat preferences is of paramount importance when assessing its conservation status. We used accurately recorded occurrence records and ecological niche modeling to predict the distribution of two poorly known small carnivore species that occur in Asia, the spotted linsang (Prionodon pardicolor) and banded linsang (Prionodon linsang), and analyzed their niche overlaps for habitat and elevation. We then assessed the loss of their suitable habitat and…

Predicted distribution of banded linsang Prionodon linsang (Mammalia: Carnivora: Prionodontidae) on Borneo
Banded linsang Prionodon linsang is restricted to Sundaic South-east Asia and inhabits a wide altitudinal range. It occurs widely in Borneo, including all political units except perhaps South
Noninvasive genetic analysis for assessing the abundance of duiker species among habitats in the tropical forest of Moukalaba, Gabon
TLDR
The dung abundance of Ogilby’s and bay duiker was affected by human impacts, while that of yellow-backed duikers was not affected byHuman impacts, and the difference in human impacts among duiker species should be considered for their conservation management.
Modeling endangered mammal species distributions and forest connectivity across the humid Upper Guinea lowland rainforest of West Africa
Species distribution data provide critical baseline information for conservation planning and decision making. However, in many of the Earth’s most biodiverse regions, such data are lacking for many
Temporal activity patterns suggesting niche partitioning of sympatric carnivores in Borneo, Malaysia
TLDR
It is proposed that a long-term study of at least 2 or 3 years is necessary to understand animals’ temporal activity patterns, especially for sun bears and civets, by camera-trapping and to establish effective protection measures.
Ancestral mitogenome capture of the Southeast Asian banded linsang
TLDR
This work recovers partial mitochondrial genome sequences for seven banded linsangs from historical specimens, representing the first intraspecific genetic dataset for this species, and reveals a deep divergence between the two Asiatic linsang species.
Diversity and occupancy of small carnivores within oil palm plantations in central Sumatra, Indonesia
In Southeast Asia, the conversion of native forests to oil palm plantations threatens tropical biodiversity, but very little is known about the impacts of oil palm cultivation on small carnivore
The complete mitochondrial genome sequence of spotted linsang (Prionodon pardicolor pardicolor)
TLDR
Based on the 13 PCG sequences, homology and single-nucleotide mutation loci were performed between P. pardicolor and P. pardonicolor, and the homology between two species was 99.6% on average and Nucleotide mutations loci was 41.6%.

Ecological niche modelling as a technique for assessing threats and setting conservation priorities for Asian slow lorises (Primates: Nycticebus)
TLDR
This study highlights potential reintroduction zones that will minimize anthropogenic threats to animals that are released and reiterates the conclusion of previous research, showing MaxEnt is a viable technique for modelling species distributions with small sample sizes.
Modelling the Species Distribution of Flat-Headed Cats (Prionailurus planiceps), an Endangered South-East Asian Small Felid
TLDR
It is recommended that future conservation efforts for the flat-headed cat should focus on the identified remaining key localities and be implemented through a continuous dialogue between local stakeholders, conservationists and scientists to ensure its long-term survival.
Predicted distributions and ecological niches of 8 civet and mongoose species in Southeast Asia
TLDR
This work predicted the distributions of 8 civet and mongoose species within Southeast Asia using ecological niche modeling, determined their habitat/elevation niche preferences, examined the interspecific differences in these 2 niche parameters, and investigated possible factors that could have affected these distribution and niche patterns.
Resource partitioning in three syntopic forest-dwelling European bat species (Chiroptera: Vespertilionidae)
TLDR
Individual niche variation may allow these specialised forest-dwelling bat species to minimise competition when foraging and roosting in syntopy.
Occurrence and conservation status of small carnivores in two protected areas in Arunachal Pradesh, north-east India
the rainforests of north-east india harbour a diverse assemblage of mustelids, viverrids and herpestids, many of which are hunted. Yet, very little information exists on their ecology, distribution,

TLDR
The morphotype reappearance from the Asiatic to the African linsangs suggests that the genome of the Feliformia conserved its potential ability of expression for a peculiar adaptive phenotype throughout evolution, in this case arboreality and hypercarnivory in tropical forest.
Sighting of Spotted Linsang Prionodon pardicolor at Nameri Tiger Reserve, Assam, India
Abstract A rarely recorded small carnivore, Spotted Linsang Prionodon pardicolor is found throughout much of south-eastern Asia. I report here the sighting of a Spotted Linsang in daytime at Nameri
The persistence and conservation of Borneo’s mammals in lowland rain forests managed for timber: observations, overviews and opportunities
Lowland rainforests on Borneo are being degraded and lost at an alarming rate. Studies on mammals report species responding in various ways to habitat changes that occur in commercial forestry
Mapping the distribution of dholes, Cuon alpinus (Canidae, Carnivora), in Thailand
TLDR
The MaxEnt model identified the predicted probability of the presence of leopards and sambar as positive and the most important variables in modeling dhole presence, indicating that maintaining a sufficient prey base may be themost important factor determining continued survival of dholes.
