Cascabela thevetia (L.) Lippold (Apocynaceae) is an ornamental as well as poisonous plant which has antibacterial, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory properties. The present study investigated the attenuating effects of the methanol extract of Cascabela thevetia fruits (MECT) on developmental toxicity and behavioral safety in zebrafish embryos. Healthy zebrafish eggs were selected by microscopic screening to study developmental toxicity and behavioral safety starting from 24 h post fertilization… Expand

Heart malformation is an early response to valproic acid in developing zebrafish
It was evident that exposure to VPA at early developmental stage of embryogenesis produced congenital cardiac abnormalities, since VPA is a selective HDAC inhibitor, histone acetylation with aberrant gene expression during cardiogenesis might be the underlying cause of cardiac malformation. Expand
Zebrafish: A Premier Vertebrate Model for Biomedical Research in Indian Scenario.
The zebrafish (Danio rerio) is a versatile model organism that has been used in biomedical research for several decades to study a wide range of biological phenomena and is one of the predominant models of human genetic diseases. Expand

Study on developmental toxicity and behavioral safety of Streblus asper Lour. bark on Zebrafish embryos
The increase of heart rate directly proportional to the increase of MESA dosage with slight oedema of heart muscle at higher dose is revealed, and precautions must be taken for further use by pregnant women. Expand
Developmental toxicity of albendazole and its three main metabolites in zebrafish embryos.
ABZ rather than ABZSO displays developmental toxicity in zebrafish embryos, and chemical analysis showed that at sublethal concentrations, most of ABZ was metabolized toABZSO. Expand
Developmental toxicity of domoic acid in zebrafish (Danio rerio).
It is indicated that zebrafish show symptoms of developmental DA toxicity as well as a similar sensitivity comparable to the effects of DA characterized in laboratory rodents. Expand
Acute toxicity of 353-nonylphenol and its metabolites for zebrafish embryos
The results of the present study point out that the toxicity of 353-NP probably declines during metabolisation in water, sediment and soil, but does not vanish since the major metabolites exhibit a clear toxic potential for zebrafish embryos. Expand
Development of a screening assay to identify teratogenic and embryotoxic chemicals using the zebrafish embryo.
It is demonstrated that the classification of the compounds, based on TI values, allows to distinguish teratogens from non-teratogens and supports the application of zebrafish embryos as an alternative method for developmental toxicity studies to predict effects in mammals. Expand
Neurodevelopmental defects in zebrafish (Danio rerio) at environmentally relevant dioxin (TCDD) concentrations.
It is shown, using a quantitative stereological technique, that 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD) substantially reduces the capacity for embryonic brain development, causing a 30% reduction in total neuronal number in the 168-h larval brain. Expand
Pre clinical studies of Streblus asper Lour in terms of behavioural safety and toxicity
On cytotoxicity studies of brine shrimps it was found methanol extract of S. asper (MESA) was weakly toxic, but, in case of acute and sub-acute toxicity study both extracts were found to be non-toxic. Expand
Concentration-response analysis of differential gene expression in the zebrafish embryotoxicity test following flusilazole exposure.
The zebrafish embryotoxicity test (ZET) is considered a promising alternative model in predictive toxicology. Currently, morphological assessment of the embryo is the main readout for this assay.Expand
Effect of Thevetia peruviana seeds extract on in vitro growth of four strains of Phytophthora megakarya
Results suggest that crude extracts from T. peruviana seeds are efficient biocide substances with antifungal activity, similar to other natural substances of plant origin in crop protection. Expand
Evaluation of the embryotoxic potency of compounds in a newly revised high throughput embryonic stem cell test.
The 96-well based EST is a promising addition to the screening process of newly developed chemicals and pharmaceuticals because it suggests direct inhibition of the contractile capacity of the D3 cardiomyocytes, rather than an embryotoxic mechanism. Expand
