Social Network Analysis (SNA) has shed powerful light on cultures where the influence of patronage, preferment, and reciprocal obligations are traditionally important. Accordingly, we argue here that episcopal appointments, culture, and governance within the Catholic Church are ideal topics for SNA interrogation.
