The effects of tripelennamine on place preference conditioning in rats with pentazocine were investigated. Pentazocine at a dose of 2 mg/kg (IP) slightly, but not significantly, induced a place preference. Concurrent dosing of pentazocine (2 mg/kg, IP) and tripelennamine (2.5 mg/kg, SC) significantly and prominently produced a place preference, although administration of tripelennamine (2.5 mg/kg, SC) alone did not. Chronic infusion of a dopamine D1 receptor antagonist, SCH23390 (1.0 mg/kg/day…
Super-additive interaction of the reinforcing effects of cocaine and H1-antihistamines in rhesus monkeys
The psychostimulant and rewarding effects of cocaine in histidine decarboxylase knockout mice do not support the hypothesis of an inhibitory function of histamine on reward
TLDR
The data confirm previous results demonstrating that HDC KO mice show reduced exploratory behaviors, but contrary to the hypothesis that histamine plays an inhibitory role in reward, histamine-deficient mice were not more responsive to the psychostimulant effects of cocaine.
Involvement of μ‐ and δ‐opioid receptor function in the rewarding effect of (±)‐pentazocine
TLDR
The findings suggest that the rewarding effects of (−)‐pentazocine may contribute to the abuse potential of (±)‐ pentazoine through μ‐ as well as δ‐opioid receptors, without robust activation of the mesolimbic dopaminergic system.
Comparison of the effects of eleven histamine H1-receptor antagonists on monoamine turnover in the mouse brain
TLDR
The results suggest that (1) the degree of inhibition of the uptake of DA and 5-HT by histamine H1-receptor antagonists is considerably different, (2) most Ht-antagonists have little influence on NA uptake and some compounds enhance NA release, and (3) carbinoxamine, clemastine, triprolidine, and meclizine have comparatively weak influences on monoamine metabolism.
The role of antihistaminic effects in the misuse of quetiapine: A case report and review of the literature
Potential of Glial Cell Modulators in the Management of Substance Use Disorders
TLDR
The paper reviews the pre-clinical and clinical studies assessing the effects that glial modulators have on abuse-related behavioral effects, such as pleasure, withdrawal, and motivation and presents a brief overview of each of the major classes of addictive drugs on glia.
Sigma‐1 receptor function is critical for both the discriminative stimulus and aversive effects of the kappa‐opioid receptor agonist U‐50488H
TLDR
The results suggest that the sigma‐1 receptor is responsible for both the discriminative stimulus effects and aversive effects of U‐50488H.
Rewarding effects of ethanol combined with low doses of morphine through dopamine D1 receptors.
TLDR
The results suggest that the rewarding effect induced by ethanol and a low dose of morphine is mediated by activation of the central opioidergic and dopaminergic systems through dopamine D1 receptors.

Potentiation of pentazocine antinociception by tripelennamine in the rat.

TLDR
The results suggest that the effect of tripelennamine on pentazocine antinociception is additive; very little was through a mechanism of inhibition of pentazOCine metabolism.
Pentazocine-tripelennamine ("T's and Blues") substitution studies in morphine-dependent rodents.
TLDR
It is concluded that the primary reason for the reported "street" abuse of the tripelennamine-pentazocine combinations is not related to any remarkable ability of the combination to effectively suppress the discomfort of heroin withdrawal.
Drug interactions in the reinforcing effects of over-the-counter cough syrups
TLDR
It is suggested that the potentiation of appetitive effects of dihydrocodeine is mostly due to chlorpheniramine among three ingredients in the cough syrups, and that the dopaminergic system, especially D1 receptor, may play an important role in the potentiated effect of chlor pheniramine on the reinforcing effects of Dihydro codeine.
Some behavioral effects of histamine H1 antagonists in squirrel monkeys.
TLDR
The results show that histamine H1 antagonists can have pronounced rate-increasing effects on nonsuppressed and suppressed behavior, and that they can serve as reinforcers in monkeys.
The clinical pharmacology of pentazocine and tripelennamine (T's and Blues).
TLDR
The studies suggest that the antihistamine tripelennamine has abuse potential, and that in combination with pentazocine, the euphoric effects of the opioid are enhanced and its dysphoric properties attenuated.
Reinforcing properties of morphine and naloxone revealed by conditioned place preferences: a procedural examination
TLDR
Experiments involving manipulation of the conditions of training and testing, use of pentobarbital, and use of a three-compartment test box helped to control for morphine's ability to produce state dependent learning as an explanation of its conditioned place preference.
The pharmacokinetics of pentazocine and tripelennamine
TLDR
In conclusion, there did not appear to be a clinically significant metabolic interaction between pentazocine and tripelennamine.
