A biomimetic membrane consisting of a lipid bilayer tethered to a mercury electrode via a hydrophilic spacer was investigated in aqueous KCl by potential-step chronocoulometry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, both in the absence and in the presence of the ionophore valinomycin.
