We have previously investigated the effects of extracellular ATP on the concentration of free cytosolic calcium ([Ca2+]i) from rat cultured neurohypophysial astrocytes (pituicytes). We demonstrated that ATP acts via a P2Y receptor to increase [Ca2+]i.
