Maternal mortality due to postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) continues to be one of the most important causes of maternal death worldwide. PPH is a significantly underestimated obstetric problem, primarily because a lack of definition and diagnosis. The ‘traditional’ definition of primary PPH based on quantification of blood loss has several limitations. Notoriously, blood loss is not measured or is significantly underestimated by visual estimation and there are no generally accepted cut‐offs limits…

Postpartum Hemorrhage; a Major Killer of Woman: Review of Current Scenario
TLDR
The main purpose of this study is to know the recent global and national prevalence of PPH, its prevention as well as management at an early stage, so as to reduce the overall burden of deaths resulting from PPH.
Second-line treatment of postpartum haemorrhage (PPH)
TLDR
A treatment algorithm for the second-line treatment of PPH is presented and options such as uterine compression sutures, embolisation, arterial ligation and hysterectomy were evaluated with regard to their prerequisites, benefits, drawbacks and respective success rate.
Assessing and managing hypovolemic shock in puerperal women.
Evaluation and Treatment of Postpartum Hemorrhage
TLDR
First-line interventions, which include uterine artery embolization and emergency hysterectomy, have high complication rates, but may be lifesaving when first-line therapy is unsuccessful.

TLDR
Postpartum hemorrhage toolkits and their application are excellent examples of system readiness improvement to address a specific obstetrical problem and should lead to a reduction in maternal mortality and morbidity.
Postpartum hemorrhage in Suriname: A national descriptive study of hospital births and an audit of case management
TLDR
PPH reduction in Suriname can be achieved through prevention by practicing active management of the third stage of labor in every birth and considering risk factors, early recognition by objective and consistent blood loss measurement, and prompt treatment by adequate administration of oxytocin and tranexamic acid according to national guidelines.
DIC in Pregnancy – Pathophysiology, Clinical Characteristics, Diagnostic Scores, and Treatments
TLDR
Management of DIC during pregnancy requires a prompt attention to the underlying condition leading to this complication, including the delivery of the patient, and correction of the hemostatic problem that can be guided by point of care testing adjusted for pregnancy.

Clinicians should be more vigilant given the possibility that the frequency and severity of PPH has in fact increased, and training should be provided to all staff involved in maternity care concerning assessment of blood loss and the monitoring of women after childbirth.

It appears at this time that oxytocin is the preferable uterotonic to use for active management of the third stage of labor, and there is little evidence to guide treatment decisions should PPH occur.
