One hundred patients who received a competitive neuromuscular blocking agent during anaesthesia were randomly selected for evaluation of neuromuscular function immediately on their arrival in the recovery room. The anaesthetist was not aware that the patient would be evaluated in the recovery room. Neuromuscular function was assessed by a train-of-four (TOF) ratio, and in conscious and co-operative patients by a series of bedside tests of neuromuscular function.
