Twenty-eight cases from 2004-2007 involving olanzapine were analyzed at the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office. Olanzapine was initially detected by gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (GC-MS), and then confirmed by GC with a nitrogen-phosphorus detector. In cases where olanzapine was detected, concentrations in peripheral blood (PB), central blood (CB), liver, and vitreous were determined if available. In the six olanzapine-only deaths, average olanzapine concentrations…
Reference Brain and Blood Concentrations of Olanzapine in Postmortem Cases.
The antipsychotic drug olanzapine may be subject to postmortem redistribution. This complicates the toxicological evaluation in postmortem cases and a supplementary analysis of brain tissue may be an
Postmortem femoral blood concentrations of risperidone.
TLDR
The measurements observed here do not suggest that risperidone is subject to major postmortem redistribution, and largely corresponds to published in vivo plasmalevels under therapy.
Postmortem femoral blood reference concentrations of aripiprazole, chlorprothixene, and quetiapine.
TLDR
Postmortem femoral blood concentrations of the antipsychotic drugs aripiprazole, chlorprothixene and its metabolite, and quetiapine were determined by LC-MS-MS suggesting no or only limited postmortem redistribution for these antipsychotics in these cases.
Interpreting Results of Ethanol, Carbamazepine and Topiramate in Putrefied Postmortem Specimens: A Case Report
TLDR
To the authors' knowledge this is the first report of the presence of carbamazepine, topiramate, and alcohol in post mortem putrefied specimens.
Identification and Quantification of Antipsychotics in Blood Samples by LC-MS-MS: Case Reports and Data from Three Years of Routine Analysis.
TLDR
It is pointed that antipsychotics are an increasingly prevalent class of drugs and must be measured not only in toxic concentrations but also in therapeutic levels in postmortem cases therefore, the importance of a sensitive method to cover the low therapeutic range in which AP are usually present.
Simple analysis of blonanserin, a novel antipsychotic agent, in human plasma by GC-MS
Blonanserin is a novel antipsychotic agent having dopamine D2 and serotonin 5-HT2A receptor antagonist properties. In this communication, a simple method for analysis of blonanserin in human plasma
Drug concentrations in post-mortem specimens.
TLDR
The results show that the variation of ratios between post-mortem specimens and femoral blood is highly compound dependent, and the following order for biological specimens to be used for a quantitative toxicological analysis in cases where femoralBlood is not available.

Tissue Distribution of Olanzapine in a Postmortem Case
TLDR
The case of a 25-year-old man found dead at home who had been prescribed olanzapine for schizophrenia is described, which is unique because of the measurement of olanZapine in brain tissue obtained from seven regions in addition to the commonly collected biologic matrices.
Olanzapine concentrations in clinical serum and postmortem blood specimens--when does therapeutic become toxic?
TLDR
The analysis of clinical serum samples showed that 86% of positive serum values were within the range of 5 to 75 ng/mL, with a mean and median of 36 and 26 ng/ mL, respectively, which suggest that the concentrations of olanzapine expected during therapy may be higher than those previously reported.
Postmortem tissue distribution of olanzapine and citalopram in a drug intoxication.
TLDR
The cause of death was ruled acute intoxication by the combined effects of olanzapine and citalopram and the manner, accident.
Fatality from olanzapine induced hyperglycemia.
TLDR
Analysis of vitreous glucose and beta-hydroxybutyrate analysis is recommended as part of postmortem toxicology work up when the drug screen reveals the presence of either olanzapine or clozapine.
Fluvoxamine Augmentation of Olanzapine in Chronic Schizophrenia: Pharmacokinetic Interactions and Clinical Effects
TLDR
Although the combination was well tolerated in this sample and the negative symptom response appeared to be favorable in at least five patients, the combination therapy of olanzapine and fluvoxamine should be used cautiously and should be controlled by therapeutic drug monitoring to avoid olanZapine-induced side effects or intoxications.
Post-mortem drug redistribution--a toxicological nightmare.
Olanzapine-related fatality.
TLDR
Based on the toxicology findings, the decedent's known history of suicide attempts, and the circumstances surrounding the death, this case was ruled a suicide by olanzapine overdosage.

TLDR
Olanzapine is associated with toxicity in certain overdose situations, but evidence of any relation is limited and likely influenced by the higher rates of cardiovascular disease and sudden death in subjects with schizophrenia.

A compilation of fatal and control concentrations of drugs in postmortem femoral blood.
TLDR
The data gathered from cases with other cause of death than intoxication constitute a new kind of reference information, which probably offers a better estimate of obviously non fatal levels in postmortem blood than any compilation of therapeutic concentrations in living subjects.
