Experiments were performed to characterize the postjunctional alpha adrenoceptors that mediate adrenergic constriction in human skin arteries. Abdominal s.c. arteries were obtained from patients who died 3 to 12 hr before, and vascular segments 2 mm in length and 600 to 1050 microns in external diameter were prepared for isometric tension recording. On application of norepinephrine, phenylephrine (alpha-1 adrenergic agonist) or clonidine (alpha-2 adrenergic agonist) the arteries contracted in a…

The results suggest that the endothelium may modulate the adrenoceptor response of cutaneous arteries during changes in temperature.
Role of the purinergic and noradrenergic components in the potentiation by endothelin‐1 of the sympathetic contraction of the rabbit central ear artery during cooling
- BiologyBritish journal of pharmacology
- 1997
The results in the rabbit central ear artery suggest that the sympathetic response at 37°C, could be mediated mainly by activation of α1‐adrenoceptors with low participation of P2‐receptors, and is diminished during cooling, probably by a reduction in the participation of β‐meATP.

Examination of the role of inhibition of cyclic AMP in α2‐adrenoceptor mediated contractions of the porcine isolated palmar lateral vein
- Biology, ChemistryBritish journal of pharmacology
- 1995
The porcine isolated palmar lateral vein of the pig has a population of α1‐ and α2‐adrenoceptor‐mediated contractions capable of producing a contraction, and the effect of elevation of cellular adenosine 3′:5′‐cyclic monophosphate (cyclic AMP) on α 1‐ andα2‐ adrenoceptors‐mediated contraction is examined.

NE-mediated cutaneous VC is blunted at both physiological and superphysiological doses in older subjects compared with young subjects, and attenuated NE-mediated VC may further predispose older humans to excess heat loss in the cold.

To determine the α‐adrenergic receptor subtypes that affect the microcirculation of skin, the relative absorption spectra of the skin on the backs of rats were measured using reflectance spectrophotometric methods and the RA value at 569 nm was determined.

Abstract The aim of this study was to determine whether upregulated cutaneous expression of &agr;1-adrenoceptors (&agr;1-AR) is a source of pain in patients with complex regional pain syndrome…
