Smooth jaw movements during gum chewing, which are defined as those driven by optimally smooth patterns of temporal change in acceleration/deceleration, have been quantified in subjects with acceptable occlusions. This paper reports a case in which significant improvement of the smoothness of masticatory jaw movement was observed following surgical-orthodontic treatment.
