Widrawn: The solutions presented in this work are not compatible with the equation of motion for g_{00}, which we did not properly verify. In the framework of this work, the only bulk solutions compatible with periodicity of the fifth dimension are constant fields. Also for a scalar field only constant solutions are obtained.

Constraints on the Cosmological Constant in a Static Geometry from Periodicity in a Compact Fifth-Dimension

The only bulk solutions compatible with periodicity of the fifth dimension are constant fields, and for a scalar field only constant solutions are obtained.

Constraints on the Cosmological Constant in a Compact Fifth-Dimension from Geometry

We consider SO(N) Yang Mills and Einstein theory in five dimensions with a compact fifth dimension. Based in periodicity conditions of the gauge and gravitational fields in fifth coordinate we obtain

Statistics on the heterotic landscape: Gauge groups and cosmological constants of four-dimensional heterotic strings

Recent developments in string theory have reinforced the notion that the space of stable supersymmetric and nonsupersymmetric string vacua fills out a landscape whose features are largely unknown. It

Why Randall-Sundrum Scenarious are not Compatible with an Orbifolded Fifth Dimension

We show the (already known) fact that Randall-Sundrum scenarious although compatible with a ${\mathbb{Z}}_2$ orbifold symmetry cannot hold regularity of the fields at the orbifold planes in the

Stabilization of Compactification Radius by Bulk and Brane Ghost Yang-Mills Gauge Fields

This paper has been withdrawn by the authors. It contains several errors that the authors believe can still be corrected. However one of the authors strongly disagrees with the setup proposed here. A

On Brane-World Cosmology

In the study of three-brane cosmological models, an unusual law of cosmological expansion on the brane has been reported. According to this law, the energy density of matter on the brane

Dynamics of Euclideanized Einstein-Yang-Mills systems with arbitrary gauge groups

We describe the dynamics of euclideanized SO(4)-symmetric Einstein-Yang-Mills (EYM) systems with arbitrary compact gauge groups . For the case of SO(n) and SU(n) gauge groups and simple embeddings of

Homogeneous and isotropic closed cosmologies with a gauge sector

The authors study in a systematic way the kinematics and dynamics of closed Friedmann-Robertson-Walker cosmologies in the presence of a gauge sector, with an arbitrary gauge group. For this purpose

A Large mass hierarchy from a small extra dimension

We propose a new higher-dimensional mechanism for solving the hierarchy problem. The weak scale is generated from the Planck scale through an exponential hierarchy. However, this exponential arises

Stability of compactification in Einstein-Yang-Mills theories after inflation.

We study the dynamics of multidimensional Einstein-Yang-Mills cosmologies. The stability of compactification after the period of inflationary expansion of the external dimensions is analysed.

On the Cosmology of Massive Vector Fields with SO(3) Global Symmetry

The authors study the dynamics of flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker cosmologies (FRW) in the presence of a triplet of massive vector fields with SO(3) global symmetry. They find an E3-symmetric ansatz
