Buckwheat contains rutin, a kind of flavonol, not only in the seeds but also in the cotyledon, leaf, stem and flower. To date, several reports have been published on the physiological roles of rutin. In this review, mainly based on our recent results, we summarize the main aspects of rutin related to its possible physiological roles. The enzymes, which catalyzed a part of rutin synthesis (quercetin glycosyl transferase) and decomposition (rutinosidase), have lower Km especially for quercetin…

On the Genotypic Differences for Rutin Content in Tartary Buckwheat, Fagopyrum tataricum Gaertn.

The parentoffspring correlation analysis for seed rutin content was carried out and indicated that enlargement of genetic variation within a strain through crosses between strains or mutagen treatments is necessary for the breeding of the seed r Rutin content by individual selection in a tartary buckwheat strain.

Extraction of rutin from buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentumMoench) seeds and determination by capillary electrophoresis.

The results indicate that buckwheat could be an important nutritional source of flavonoids, especially in countries with a low mean daily flavonoid intake.

Changes in rutin concentration and flavonol-3-glucosidase activity during seedling growth in tartary buckwheat (Fagopyrum tataricum Gaertn.)

While rutin was mostly present in the cotyledon, f3g activity was observed in the testa, the surface of theTesta, and root, and in the root of tartary buckwheat seedlings, where it retained 80% activity at 4 DAG compared with dry seed.

Varietal and year variation of rutin content in common buckwheat ( Fagopyrum esculentum Moench)

Krupinka was the variety with the highest rutin content in the aboveground part of a plant, contrary to the other varieties, which had thehighest rutIn content in flowers, stems and achenes.

Antioxidative activity of the buckwheat polyphenol rutin in combination with ovalbumin.

The rutin-ovalbumin complex has improved antioxidative activities in the form of enhanced peroxyl radical scavenging activity and DNA protection from apurinic/apyrimidinic site formation caused by hydroxyl radicals.

Varietal differences and heritability for rutin content in common buckwheat, Fagopyrum esculentum Moench

The seed rutin content of the tetraploid cultivars of Japan was higher than that of the diploid ones, however, there was no significant difference between the ploidy level for leaf.
