We use long-slit spectroscopy along the major axis of a sample of 23 nearby disk galaxies to study the kinematic properties of the ionized-gas component in their inner regions. For each galaxy, we derive the position-velocity diagram of the ionized gas from its emission lines. We discuss the variety of shapes observed in such position-velocity diagrams by comparing the gas velocity gradient, velocity dispersion and integrated flux measured in the inner (r '1 00 ) and outer regions (r '4 00… Expand

The Rotation Curves of Dwarf Galaxies: A Problem for Cold Dark Matter?
We address the issue of accuracy in recovering density profiles from observations of rotation curves of galaxies. We observe and analyze our models in much the same way as observers do the realExpand
We present new central stellar velocity dispersion measurements for 428 galaxies in the Palomar spectroscopic survey of bright, northern galaxies. Of these, 142 have no previously publishedExpand
Morphological and kinematical analysis of the double-barred galaxy NGC 3504 using ALMA CO (2–1) data
We present results obtained from ALMA CO (2–1) data of the double-barred galaxy NGC 3504. With three times higher angular resolution (∼ 0. ′′8) than previous studies, our observations reveal an innerExpand
Far-Infrared Spitzer Observations of Elliptical Galaxies: Evidence for Extended Diffuse Dust
Far-infrared Spitzer observations of elliptical galaxies are inconsistent with simple steady state models of dust creation in red giant stars and destruction by grain sputtering in the hotExpand
Bulgeless Giant Galaxies Challenge Our Picture Of Galaxy Formation By Hierarchical Clustering
To better understand the prevalence of bulgeless galaxies in the nearby field, we dissect giant Sc-Scd galaxies with Hubble Space Telescope (HST) photometry and Hobby-Eberly Telescope (HET)Expand
GASP. XXII. The Molecular Gas Content of the JW100 Jellyfish Galaxy at z ∼ 0.05: Does Ram Pressure Promote Molecular Gas Formation?
Within the GASP survey, aimed at studying the effect of the ram-pressure stripping on the star formation quenching in cluster galaxies, we analyze here ALMA observations of the jellyfish galaxyExpand
NGC 4435: a bulge‐dominated galaxy with an unforeseen low‐mass central black hole
We present the ionised gas kinematics of the SB0 galaxy NGC 4435 from spectra obtained with the Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph. This galaxy has been selected on the basis of its ground-basedExpand

Pressure-supported Ionized Gas in S0 Galaxies*
Rotation curves and velocity dispersion profiles are presented for both the stellar and gaseous components of a sample of S0 galaxies. In all galaxies the central velocity dispersion of the ionizedExpand
Kinematic properties of gas and stars in 20 disc galaxies
Ionized gas and stellar kinematical parameters have been measured along the major axis of 20 nearby disc galaxies. We discuss the properties of each sample galaxy, distinguishing between thoseExpand
Stellar and Ionized Gas Kinematics in the Circumnuclear Region of the Galaxy NGC 7331

Circumnuclear Keplerian Disks in Galaxies
In this Letter, we demonstrate the possibility of inferring the presence of Keplerian gaseous disks using properly equipped optical ground-based telescopes. We have modeled the peculiar bidimensionalExpand

The Bulge-Disk Orthogonal Decoupling in Galaxies: NGC 4698*
The R-band isophotal map of the Sa galaxy NGC 4698 shows that the inner region of the bulge structure is elongated perpendicularly to the major axis of the disk; this is also true for the outer partsExpand
Modelling gaseous and stellar kinematics in the disc galaxies NGC 772, 3898 and 7782
We present V band surface photometry and major-axis kinematics of stars and ionized gas of three early-type spiral galaxies, namely NGC 772, NGC 3898 and NGC 7782. For each galaxy we present aExpand
