A natural phytoplankton assemblage from Grand Traverse Bay, Lake Michigan, was treated with factorial enrichments of nitrate and phosphorus, with maintained nutrient concentrations ranging from 5 to 60 µg total soluble phosphorus liter−1 and 0.225 to 1.12 mg nitrate-nitrogen liter−1.One container was spiked with added vitamins, a chelator, and trace metals.
