Abstract The complex formation between several trivalent lanthanides (Ln) and 5-sulfosalicylate, (SSA) 3− , was investigated by potentiometry, 1 H NMR, and time resolved laser-induced fluorescence spectroscopy (TRLIFS). The potentiometric data were used to deduce the stoichiometry and equilibrium constants for the reactions p Ln 3+  +  r L ⇆ Ln p H − q L r  +  q H + at 298 K in an ionic medium with a constant concentration of Na + equal to 1.00 M.
