The solute carrier family 11 (proton-coupled divalent metal ion transporters), member 1 (Slc11a1) also called natural resistance-associated macrophage protein 1 gene (Nramp1) is a member of the large family of metal ion-transport proteins. It encodes a divalent cation (Fe+ & Mn+) transporter that localizes in the phagolysosome membrane in macrophages. Slc11a1 gene plays a critical role in innate immunity favoring bacterial killing by macrophages in addition to its infl uence on adaptative… Expand

Molecular characterization of 3′ UTR of Nramp1 gene in Gaolao breed of cattle.
The aim of the present investigation was to identify the genetic variations in the 3’UTR (Untranslated region) of Nramp1 gene in the Gaolao breed (Bos indicus) cattle, using the technique PCR-SSCP and by sequencing. Expand
The next study of polymorphism in 3’flanking region of LEP gene trough more sample addition and production record are important to find the Marker Ass Selection (MAS) for production traits. Expand

Frequency of bovine Nramp1 (Slc11a1) alleles in Holstein and Zebu breeds.
The knowledge of allelic frequencies in different breeds of cattle may prove to be very useful in the future for planning breeding strategies for selection of resistant cattle. Expand
Lack of association of brucellosis resistance with (GT)(13) microsatellite allele at 3'UTR of NRAMP1 gene in Indian zebu (Bos indicus) and crossbred (Bos indicus x Bos taurus) cattle.
It is demonstrated that the presence of (GT)(13) allele even in homozygous condition could not provide enough resistance to brucellosis in a naturally infected herd. Expand

A significant association (p < 0.001) was found between the B. abortus macrophage in vitro killing assay phenotypes and the bovine SLC11A1 3' UTR genotypes, which suggests that the A allele may be associated with resistance. Expand
Single-strand conformation polymorphisms (SSCPs) detected in five bovine genes.
Polymorphic loci were subsequently analysed in pedigreed full-sib families and shown to be inherited in a Mendelian fashion and an important step in the goal to incorporate type I comparative anchor loci into the bovine linkage map. Expand
A complex pattern of microsatellite polymorphism within the bovine NRAMP1 gene.
A complex pattern of microsatellite polymorphism revealed during the search for polymorphisms within the bovine homologue of the mouse NRAMP1 (bovineNRAMP1) gene is described. Expand
Novel variants within the coding regions of the Slc11A1 gene identified in Bos taurus and Bos indicus breeds.
Although in the cow the genetic resistance to brucellosis has been previously attributed to the Slc11A1 gene encoding Nramp1 protein, none of the mutations described to date seems to be the cause. ToExpand
Single strand confirmation polymorphism (SSCP) detection in exon I of the a -lactalbumin gene of Indian Jamunapari milk goats (Capra hircus)
The genetic diversity of Jamunapari goats was investigated using an optimized non-radioactive polymerase chain reaction single-strand conformation polymorphism (PCR-SSCP) method to detect a-lactalbumin polymorphism, indicating that JamunAPari goats have high genetic variability at loci, exon I of the a- lact Albumin gene. The Nramp1AA genotype confers susceptibility to Brucella abortus in water buffalo
Evidence is provided that the Nramp1AA genotype is associated with susceptibility to the same pathogen, as detected by the denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE) technique. Expand
Natural-resistance-associated macrophage protein 1 is an H+/bivalent cation antiporter.
A new model for metal ion homoeostasis in macrophages is proposed, where Nramps2 is a symporter of H+ and metal ions, Nramp1 is a highly pH-dependent antiporter that fluxes metal ions in either direction against a proton gradient. Expand
Genetic regulation of macrophage activation: understanding the function of Nramp1 (=Ity/Lsh/Bcg).
Although the association of NRAMP1 with autoimmune disease susceptibility may be related to any one of the multiple pleiotropic effects associated with macrophage activation, the function ofNRAMP1 as an iron transporter now prompts more interesting speculation that regulation of iron transport may contribute directly to the disease phenotype in arthritic disease.
