 A novel understanding of the structural features of humic substances supports the self-assembly supramolecular association of relatively small molecules rather than their polymeric nature. An increase in the conformational stability of humus may thus be achieved through promotion of intermolecular covalent bondings between heterogeneous humic molecules by an enzyme-catalyzed oxidative reaction.
