The reaction of monoanhydrides and terminal epoxides to give linear polyesters is 98–99% specific in the presence of tertiary amines. Products with molecular weights up to 18,400 have been obtained; the only termination reaction detected (within the limits of analytical accuracy) has been due to hydroxyl-containing impurities in the reagents.
