Two types of polycations with pendant active groups were synthesized: one is polymethacrylate containing pendant biguanide units, and the other is poly(vinylbenzyl ammonium chloride). The two polycations were found to exhibit higher bactericidal activity against Staphylococcus aureus than the corresponding monomers.
