This paper concerns the history of the upper-Sangha region, which has historically attracted many migrations, giving the densely populated area its multi-ethnic flavor. Political relations were constructed by means of alliance and kinship exchanges of “nephew” (to an inferior group), “wife” (to a strong ally) or “sister” (to a group considered equal).
