Two rare species of Podocotyle Dujardin, 1845 (Digenea: Opecoelidae) parasitizing five macrourid species inhabiting the deep waters of the northeastern Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea off Panama are described. Podocotyle nimoyi n. sp. was found in the intestine of the pugnose grenadier, Sphagemacrurus grenadae (Parr), and the common Atlantic grenadier, Nezumia aequalis (Günther) (Gadiformes: Macrouridae), at depths of 534-995 m in the Northeast Gulf of Mexico off Florida and represents the…

Two deep-sea opecoelids represented by sequence data, Neolebouria lanceolata and Podocotyloides brevis, remain inadequately accommodated and may require another new subfamily, but it is not yet clear which morphological and/or ecological characters would distinguish such a concept.

Macrourimegatrema gadoma n. sp. (Digenea: Opecoelidae) from the doublethread grenadier Gadomus arcuatus (Goode & Bean) (Macrouridae) in the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea
- BiologySystematic Parasitology
- 2006
The new species differs from Macrourimegatrema brayi Blend, Dronen & Armstrong, 2004, in the distribution of the vitelline follicles and gonads, a larger body size, and the presence of highly-folded caeca with numerous outpocketings or pouches.
Description of a new species of Podocotyle Dujardin, 1845 (Digenea: Opecoelidae: Plagioporinae) from the cusk-eel, Luciobrotula corethromycter Cohen, 1964 (Ophidiiformes: Ophidiidae), from the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea
- BiologyActa Parasitologica
- 2015
The new species is distinguished by possessing a combination of the following features: an elongate oval body shape, a sucker width ratio of 1:1.9, deeply lobed and irregularly-shaped testes, a cirrus-sac that extends just in to the hindbody, a trilobed ovary and vitellarium that extend to the ventral sucker level.

The new genus Buticulotrema stenauchenus is described from the macrourid fishes Malacocephalus occidentalis Goode and Bean and Nezumia aequalis Günther, collected in June 1971 from the DeSoto Canyon area of the Gulf of Mexico at a depth of 495 m.

The generic diagnosis of Tellervotrema is amended to include circumcaecal vitelline follicles, and the presence of the viteLLine gap itself was found to be a more consistentdiagnostic generic character than the location of the resulting pair of distinct, isolated groups of vitella follicles created by the gap.
