The frequency of Pneumocystis jirovecii infection was high in the studied Mexican population and the most common genotype was different from those reported in other countries.

Pneumocystis jirovecii y SARS-CoV-2; COVID-19

Additional diagnostic tests for P. jirovecii, are necessary in patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection, especially when other clinical characteristics that may support coinfection are present such as cystic findings in thoracic CT and elevated blood levels of 1.3-D-glucan.

Pneumocystis jirovecii detection and genotyping from HIV-positive and HIV-negative Mexican patient samples

This paper aims to demonstrate the efforts towards in-situ applicability of EMMARM, as to provide real-time information about the phytochemical properties of E.coli found in the Bordeaux bug.

The host specificity of Pneumocystis carinii

Pneumocystis colonization is highly prevalent in the autopsied lungs of the general population.

The results strengthen the concept that immunocompetent adults develop frequent self-limited reinfections throughout life and participate in the circulation of P. jirovecii as an infective reservoir for susceptible individuals.

Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia in the United States: epidemiologic, diagnostic, and clinical features.

Analysis of 194 patients with confirmed Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia in the United States over a 3-year period revealed that P. carinii pneumonia occurred almost exclusively in the immunosuppressed

Pneumocystis jirovecii and cystic fibrosis.

Since patients with cystic fibrosis could act as major reservoirs and sources of infection for susceptible individuals further research is thus warranted to assess the true scope of the problem and to design rational preventive strategies if necessary.

Evolving health effects of Pneumocystis: one hundred years of progress in diagnosis and treatment.

Although substantial advances in diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of PCP have decreased its frequency and improved prognosis, PCP continues to be seen in both HIV-infected patients and patients receiving immunosuppressive medications.

Extrapulmonary pneumocystosis

A more detailed analysis of the incidence of extrapulmonary pneumocystosis in HIV-1-infected individuals and its occurrence despite widespread prophylaxis for PCP with either aerosolized pentamidine or systemic dapsone-trimethoprim is presented.

Serologic evidence concerning the distinction between Pneumocystis of rat and human origin is reviewed and it is indicated that immunity is multifaceted, depending on the presence of plasma cells, antibody, T lymphocytes, macrophages and probably complement.

Similar genotypes of Pneumocystis jirovecii in different forms of Pneumocystis infection.

The genotyping of Pneumocystis jirovecii organisms isolated from patients who developed different forms of infection and who lived in the same geographical region suggest that patients infected with P. jirovcii, whatever the form of infection they present, are part of a common human reservoir for the fungus.
