BACKGROUND Survival after tri-modality therapy with extrapleural pneumonectomy (EPP) and postoperative chemoradiotherapy is longer for patients with epithelial MPM versus mixed or sarcomatoid subtypes, leading some to decline aggressive therapy for patients with nonepithelial histology.
