We explore a plasma based analogue of a helical undulator capable of providing circularly and elliptically polarised betatron radiation. We focus on ionisation injection configurations and in the conditions where the laser pulse driver can force collective betatron oscillations over the whole trapped electron bunch. With an analytical model and by employing three dimensional simulations and radiation calculations, we find that circularly or elliptically polarised laser drivers can force helical…

A compact tunable polarized X-ray source based on laser-plasma helical undulators

It is demonstrated that a radiation source with millimeter size and peak brilliance of 2 × 1019 photons/s/mm2/mrad2/0.1% bandwidth can be made with moderate laser and electron beam parameters, suggesting that laser plasma based radiation sources are promising for advanced applications.

Betatron radiation polarization control by using an off-axis ionization injection in a laser wakefield acceleration.

Three-dimensional particle-in-cell simulations are used to propose a scheme to realize controllable electron dynamics and X-ray radiation in laser wakefield-based X-rays, leading to tunable radiations both in intensity and polarization.

Experimental signatures of direct-laser-acceleration-assisted laser wakefield acceleration

The direct laser acceleration (DLA) of electrons in a laser wakefield accelerator (LWFA) operating in the forced or quasi-blowout regimes has been investigated through experiment and simulation. When
