The effect of processing on plasma lipid profile and atherogenic indices of rats fed Artocarpus heterophyllus seed diets at different concentrations were investigated. Fifty five rats were used for this study, they were divided into eleven groups of five rats each (one control group and ten test groups), the test groups were fed raw, boiled, roasted, fermented and soaked diets at 10% and 40% concentrations. The study lasted for thirty five days. The diets led to significant decrease (p<0.05) in…

The Potential Effect of Aqueous Extract of Detarium microcarpum Bark on Certain Metabolic Disorders Associated with an Atherogenic Diet in Rats
TLDR
The aqueous bark extract of D. microcarpum administered orally showed anti-atherogenic, cardioprotective, and hepatoprotective potential.

TLDR
VD repletion improved the menopause-associated dyslipidaemia and atherogenic indices through hypolipidemic, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory effects.
Allium Cepa Juice Prevented Oxidative Stress-Mediated Metabolic Disorder Following Chronic Lead Acetate Exposure in Male Rats
TLDR
Exposure to LA caused significant reduction in high density lipoprotein (HDL), calcium, superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase and glutathione (GSH), but there was no significant change in TC, LDL, TG, VLDL, AIP, sodium, potassium, chloride, MDA, catalases and GSH.

Alteration of Plasma Lipid Profiles and Atherogenic Indices by Stachytarpheta jamaicensis L. (Vahl)
TLDR
The use of Stachytarpheta jamaicensis tea in the management of dyslipidemia whether primary or secondary to obesity, diabetes mellitus and hypertension, and by extension, the reduction of the risk of cardiovascular diseases is suggested.
Lipid Profile of Postmenopausal Women in Calabar, Nigeria
TLDR
Evidence of a protective effect of endogenous estrogen against arteriosclerosis and coronary heart disease as evidenced by increased HDL-C levels and reduced LDL-C and atherogenic index of the premenopausal women.
Evaluation of the Effects of Colatropis gigantea Leaf Extracts on Blood pH, Blood Glucose and Total Protein concentrations in Diabetic Rabbits.
TLDR
Evaluation of the effects of Colatropis gigantea Leaf Extracts on Blood pH, Blood Glucose and Total Protein concentrations in Diabetic Rabbits revealed that acetone fraction significantly decreased the blood glucose level and protein concentration.
Plasma lipid profiles and risk of cardiovascular disease in occupational lead exposure in Abeokuta, Nigeria
TLDR
Results suggest that lead exposure increases cholesterol synthesis and transport to peripheral tissues whereas reverse cholesterol transport to the liver is not affected.
Cholesterol metabolism in type 1 diabetes.
TLDR
High absorption and low synthesis marker sterols seem to characterize human type 1 diabetes, which could be related to low expression of ABC G/5 G/8 genes, resulting in high absorption of cholesterol and sterols in general andLow synthesis of cholesterol compared with type 2 diabetes.
Relationship between serum lipoprotein ratios and insulin resistance in obesity.
TLDR
It is demonstrated that the TG/HDL-C ratio positively correlates with insulin resistance in severely obese nondiabetic individuals.
Amaranth oil application for coronary heart disease and hypertension
TLDR
It is hypothesized that amaranth oil could be of significant benefit for patients with CVD because of the movement of the Na and K ions across the cell membranes that could contribute to the development of increase in blood pressure.
The effects of plant flavonoids on mammalian cells: implications for inflammation, heart disease, and cancer.
TLDR
Western medicine has not yet used flavonoids therapeutically, even though their safety record is exceptional, and suggestions are made where such possibilities may be worth pursuing.
