A technique for the production of plaques by hog cholera virus (HCV), using secondary pig kidney cells under an agarose overlay, is described. Positive results have been obtained with a virus strain that had received a number of tissue culture passages, with eleven virulent laboratory strains, and with some field samples. Three lapinized HCV strains gave negative results. HCV-plaques only became visible after prolonged incubation of stained cultures in the dark. The following observations… CONTINUE READING
