Abstract Ostracod samples were taken from coastal waters of the South Shetland Islands (King George and Elephant) northeast of the Antarctic Peninsula. The population structure of the planktonic ostracods in the upper 200-m water column is described. In total 77 samples were taken quantitatively by RMT-1 hauls predominantly containing Alacia hettacra, A. belgicae and Metaconchoecia isocheira.
